Chemical peeling consists in exfoliation, thanks to an acidic substance that is applied to the skin of the face. It is precisely by exfoliating and “peeling” this layer of skin that indications such as acne, pigment spots, wrinkles or other signs of aging can be treated.

How does it work?

The liquid substance is applied to the skin using a brush. The acids contained in the preparation then act on the skin by peeling. No tools or needles are used in this procedure.

There are three types of chemical peels

They penetrate the skin to different depths. Depending on the desired result, it will be necessary to descend more or less deeply into the epidermis layer or even into the dermis layer. But only doctors and dermatologists can work at the level of the dermis layer.

Surface peeling

It is used to exfoliate the topmost layers of the skin. Beauticians can also perform this type of peeling. There is no need to worry about side effects except for slight redness and irritation, which will disappear within a few hours after the treatment or the next day. The beautician herself must give recommendations after the treatment, which must be respected. Do not expose yourself to the sun for two weeks after the treatment.

Medium peeling

Medium peeling allows working under the layer of stratum corneum epidermis, on the surface dermis, to more effectively treat skin manifestations such as pigment spots, acne, or wrinkles. The patient is socially restricted for approximately one week.

Deep peeling

It is used much less frequently and is similar to a medical operation. This type of peeling allows you to reach deep wrinkles and hollow scars. Local or general anesthesia is necessary. The skin must be prepared two weeks to a month in advance with suitable creams.

This preparation is essential. The process requires monitoring by experts and specialists.

After deep chemical peeling, the skin has significant swelling and bleeding. The skin should be bandaged and regularly rubbed with ointments intended for healing. The skin may remain pink for several months after treatment, and the patient should avoid any exposure to the sun. It is a medical procedure.

Chemical peeling can act as follows:

  • Reduction of lines and wrinkles
  • Skin color
  • Skin brightness
  • Smoother skin
  • Removal of pigment spots
  • to treat acne
  • Softens acne scars and other scars
  • Can shrink large pores, remove blackheads and comedones
  • Works on couperose and rosacea

The results will be more or less pronounced depending on the penetration depth and the acids used in the solution. Peeling results can last 6 to 12 months.

A wide range of chemical peels makes it possible to treat almost all skin problems and even use the “zoning” or “mapping” technique. It can thus offer customized treatments and apply different peels to different face areas.

Recovery from a medium peel usually takes 7 to 14 days.  The skin will be red after the procedure. After a medium peel, redness can last up to a month. Chemical peeling can cause changes in skin color. Scarring is rare if an experienced dermatologist performs the procedure.
