Tour program
We will meet at Cafe Deniz next to the High School of Maritime Affairs, on the left side of the Heybeliada jetty exit, at 10:00 in the morning. After a short briefing, we begin our tour of the island on foot. First, we’ll look at the Historic Naval Fountain. Then we will pass by the island’s oldest residence and see the public library. We continue our walk to the Heybelia Island Mosque.
After visiting the church and classrooms, we continue our walk towards the house of İsmet İnönü. Behind the Halki Palace Hotel, on the other side of the island in the shade of pine trees, we will see the Military Naval High School and continue towards the Terki Dunya Monastery. After our arrival at the Terki Dunya Monastery, those who wish can make a wish and light a candle here. After visiting the monastery, we will take a break for a cold drink or coffee in the famous garden with a wonderful view and eat the snacks we brought with us in a place with a wonderful view.
After a break, we will come to Çam Limani bay and in the meantime we will look at the horse shelters of the island carriages. We arrive at the Aya Yorgi Monastery after having seen the two old sanatoriums of the island from the outside, in Çam Limani Bay. We see this place from the outside and continue past the military facilities and arrive at İsmet İnönü Park.
After a long walk, we arrive at Deniz Cafe, our first meeting place, and around 4 p.m. there will be free time for those who are still hungry (don’t forget to try Deniz Cafe’s famous mussel pan).
After a break, we will explore the coast of the island and see the Old Greek School and the Church of Aya Nikola from the outside. Then we will return to Heybelia island jetty.
